Tolling, Freight Mobility, and Washington State’s Infrastructure Needs

Featuring former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters

Please join us for our annual transportation event Tuesday, May 10. The conference will feature two panels and a keynote lunch.

The first panel, at 10:00 a.m., will focus on tolls. The Puget Sound region is about to experience highway tolling like never before. With charges beginning on the 520 bridge across Lake Washington and the possibility of an express tollway along I-405 through Bellevue, motorists will face higher costs and new rules. On the other hand, tolls reduce traffic congestion and create revenue for new infrastructure. WPC’s panel includes a diverse set of experts who will answer your questions and provide insight on what we can expect with tolling in the Puget Sound region. The panel will include the following experts:

Craig Stone, Director, Washington State Department of Transportation toll division

Larry Pursley, Executive Vice President, Washington Trucking Associations

Hon. Kemper Freeman Jr., Kemper Development

Bob Poole, Director of Transportation Policy, Reason Foundation

The second panel, at 11:15 a.m., will address the importance of freight mobility. Washington state has $200 billion of unmet infrastructure needs and the state faces an uncertain future. With growing traffic congestion, rising supply chain costs and global competition, our economy requires a better transportation system. Please join WPC’s panel of experts to learn how we can make our region more competitive. Participants include:

Bill Bryant, Commissioner, Port of Seattle

Mark Anderson, CEO, Anderson Hay and Grain

Stan Vander Pol, President, Washington Trucking Association and owner, Peninsula Truck Lines.

The keynote lunch, at 12:30 p.m., will feature former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters. Ms. Peters will use her extensive experience in the transportation industry at both state and federal levels to expand on the challenges facing freight mobility and our region’s infrastructure needs.

“The last year of planning and building relationships with civic and industry leaders has only strengthened our resolve to bring a fashion week to the region that is truly about the business of fashion,” Says Steven Paul Matsumoto. “Everyone we talk to supports our vision of seeing SODO and Georgetown becoming a thriving garment district full of design houses, but the current economic state has made it difficult to translate those words of support into something tangible. Our short relationship with the Robert Chinn Foundation has already had tangible results, and we look forward to restructuring ECFW and coming back stronger next year.”

Emerald City Fashion Week’s mission is to revitalize the apparel industry in the Pacific Northwest by combining educational opportunities, runway shows, and events to bring awareness to the local designer scene.
