Counterinsurgency: Implications in Afghanistan and Elsewhere with David Kilcullen

Posted by WorldAffairsCouncil in Articles, Events

The World Affairs Council presents Dr. David Kilcullen, author of Counterinsurgency, for an exploration of what is to come in Afghanistan, the complex interplay between local guerrillas and global terrorists, and the implications for U.S. defense strategies.

What does the replacement of General Stanley McChrystal with General David Petraeus mean for U.S. strategies in Afghanistan? What is the military strategy known as “counterinsurgency” and what are the prospects for it succeeding in Afghanistan? If the “Global War on Terror” is better described as a “global Islamic insurgency,” what are the implications for U.S. security and defense policies?
