Upper School Drama Teacher
Part-Time (.5 FTE); For 1st Semester Only (August 2010 – January 2011)

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a fall semester (August 2010 – January 2010) Upper School Drama Teacher. This is a temporary position that will replace an existing faculty member that is on leave for the semester.

Responsibilities:

The Drama Teacher position, reporting to the Upper School Arts Department Head, will join a highly collaborative department that consists of 10 faculty members.  Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching 2 sections of beginning Drama (Drama I) which is a year-long class open to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.   Maximum class sizes are set at 18 students, with averages class sizes between 16 and 17 students.  The instructor will work within an existing curriculum that links the experiences of students in the 9th grade Acting class with the program elements in the continuing sequence of Drama I, II, and III. Some details of the Drama I course will be up to the instructor: most will be existing units. The curriculum for Drama I has been developed in collaboration with other drama teachers, and the content of the Drama class will be coordinated with that of the other Drama courses
  • Writing individual student assessments at mid-semester and at the end of the semester.
  • Providing academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra help, etc.), as needed;
  • Active collaboration and participation in the work of the Arts Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
  • Attending department and faculty meetings as scheduled;
  • Holding conferences with students, parents and colleagues as appropriate to support the student advising and academic process;
  • Active participation in the life of the school community.

Requirements:

Successful candidates will hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or a related field (MFA preferred), with a significant amount of study in theater.  Must have experience teaching drama/theater arts at the high-school or college level and be able to work with motivated students who vary in ability, experience and learning styles.  Candidates must be proficient with PC/Windows platform and the Microsoft Office suite.  The successful teacher candidate will enjoy a highly collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity.
