Middle School English Teaching Opportunity
1-Year Conditional Position; Part-Time (.75 FTE)

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a Middle School English Teacher, for the 2010-11 school year.  This is a part-time, one-year position beginning in mid- to late-August, 2010.

Responsibilities:

The English Teacher position, reporting to the Middle School English Department Head and the Middle School Director, will join a highly collaborative department.  Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching three sections of seventh grade English classes, which focus on creating confident, fluent writers.

Class sizes range between 15-17 students per class.

  • Providing academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing

extra writing help, etc.), as needed.

  • Active collaboration and participation in the work of the English Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment.
  • Attending English Department, grade-level team and faculty meetings as scheduled.
  • Acting as an academic advisor for eight Middle School students.
  • Active participation in the life of the school community.

Requirements:

Successful candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in English, Education or a closely related field (Master’s degree is preferred); have a minimum of three years experience teaching English, preferably to Middle School students; and have a passion for interacting with middle school level students in and outside of the classroom, as well as individuals that thrive in a highly collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity.
